Integrating Twitter with Your Website

Twitter is a very popular social networking site with millions of users. Users can microblog, in 140 characters or less, an answer to the question “What are you doing?”  They don’t have to answer that question though.  Users can type just about anything like news, links, tv show, etc. as long as it doesn’t go over 140 characters.

Signing Up

Registering an account is easy.  All it requires is a valid e-mail address.  You provide a desired unique username or twitter name, password, create a short bio and then you’re on your way to interact with other users in the Twittersphere.  Make sure to create a username that relates to your site and is easy to remember.  In your bio, include a link to your site to push other Twitter users to go to your site.

Customization

Twitter allows for minimal customization.  You can change the background color and text colors using hex code.  You can change your background using an image provided by Twitter or you can upload a background image of your own.  Like your username, make sure your background image and colors match the theme of your website.

Using Twitter to Your Advantage

Add a link to your Twitter so that current visitors to your site can Follow your Twitter account.  Be active on your twitter account.  Post interesting tweets regularly to keep up your visibility among the thousands of public tweets.  Reply or @reply to other Twitter users.  Also Follow other Twitter users that relate to your website.
